Simon Stone Rawls, Killeen Criminal Attorney

Simon Stone Rawls is a criminal defense attorney in the Killeen office of Dunham & Jones and a former Nueces County prosecutor. He handles DWI, assault and family violence, drug, theft, and weapons cases, both misdemeanors and felonies, and appears most often in Bell County, with some work in Lampasas and Coryell Counties. He has tried more than five jury trials and has handled hundreds of cases.

Mr. Rawls grew up in New Orleans. He earned a Bachelor of Science in business administration from Our Lady of Holy Cross College in 2000, where he served as a Student Government Senator and Secretary, then a Master of Business Administration from the University of New Orleans in 2003 and his Juris Doctor from Loyola University New Orleans College of Law in 2007. Texas licensed him that year.

His work before Dunham & Jones ran through both sides of litigation. He was a legal associate at Deloitte from 2016 to 2017, in-house counsel on a major discovery project, and handled commercial pre-litigation at Thomas J. Henry from 2018 to 2019 and again in 2022. From 2019 to 2022 he was an Assistant District Attorney in Nueces County, prosecuting misdemeanors and felonies.

Mr. Rawls starts with the discovery, reviews and analyzes it, and decides whether to recommend a plea or fight the case. He then tells the client where he lands and gets their account of events, because the State's evidence is not always right. Mitigation work is often part of what he recommends.

He does this work because he enjoys how varied criminal defense is and the challenge it brings. Working for Dunham & Jones is what brought him to the Killeen area.

Outside of work, Mr. Rawls travels, hikes, reads, and spends time with family and friends.
